Open Wide Our Hearts - Section: The Native American Experience, African American Experience, Hispanic Experience (pp. 10-17, paragraph 18-29)
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
Take a Moment to reflect on our experiencing biases in the past, and possibly in the present, as well…whether it was an experience of us recognizing that we were being judged unfairly, or if we ourselves made a judgment about someone because of their race or some aspect of their culture.
After reviewing this section or some of the resources provided, what new learning or awareness dawned on me that I never considered before? In what ways is God inviting us to deeper solidarity with individuals who have a different background or culture from ourselves?
SUGGESTED ACTIONS
Be open-minded conversing with more empathy with others (even from your own culture), using active listening skills and thoughtful dialogue
Invite Sisters and colleagues from other cultures to share more with you about their culture.
Have the courage to speak up about the importance of being reverent and sensitive in our conversations with one another when you sense that someone’s feelings may have been hurt because of our manner of speaking.
