October is Respect Life Month and Catholics celebrate the sanctity and dignity of all life from conception to natural death. The theme for this year is “Live the Gospel of Life”. We are invited to participate in the 40 Days for Life campaign to pray and be a witness for the protection of babies in the womb. For more information on local activities go to40 Days For Life.
The (USCCB) US Conference of Catholic Bishops launched “Walking with Moms in Need,” where Catholic communities “walk in the shoes” of pregnant and parenting women in need. Information is available at Walking with Moms in Need.
Pathway to a Sustainable Future October 4th is the end of the Season of Creationbut not the end of the urgent need to care for creation. If you are interested in a short summary of Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’ on the care of creation you are invited to view the powerpoint with audio, “Pathway to a Sustainable Future”,which highlights the major aspects of his document. (It is attached to the email along with this Update.) As people of faith it is so important to be informed about this issue as well as with the dialogue between Religion and Science that addresses climate change. This is our time to pray, act and advocate for future generations! If not now, when?
